ICETEC SOUTH - All Dogs Welcome
ICETEC South (located at 2550 W Estrella Rd., New River, AZ 85087) is a herding and dog training facility that was the long time dream of Cathy Sumeracki and John Nyheim, both avid dog lovers who wanted a facility where all dogs were welcome and events could be held with minimal set up. This five acre site has two large (sheep/cow) arenas, two duck arenas and two smaller pen arenas. Three of the six arenas are lit for evening herding and each area has a set out area so any stock can be worked in any arena. It is the perfect set up for arena trials and has been the host for camps, clinics, conformation shows and other events.
The ranch house and surrounding area is set up as a small guest ranch and has two available rooms and two RVs which can rented for overnight and longer stays. All lodging is dog friendly.
ICETEC south offers facility rental, herding instinct tests, private lessons, group lessons, overnight lodging, and stock practice (sheep, ducks, goats). There is always something going on here so check out our Events page. Also be sure and complete the form below to be added to our mailing list! We'll keep you informed of what's happening. Looking for more information on herding or an item needed for herding? Check out the products page. Great educational products!

About Cathy Sumeracki

Cathy with Reba, Jag, Spice and Shea
Cathy began herding in 2005 after getting a rescue Border Collie, Midge, who. despite Cathy's attempts at agility, insisted on herding. Once Midge and Cathy met Dawna Sims (PSR Stock Dogs ) and saw Dawna's training methods, she vowed to articulate those methods so herding training was clearer to the dogs and handlers. She co-founded the ICE Training program with Dawna Sims. Cathy articulates the Dawna Sims training methods and develops classes and other educational programs that explain the Sims ICE training methods. Cathy follows the ICE principles in her training and ICETEC is a ceritifed ICE training facility.
Cathy's first trial was in 2008 and since then she has had a great track record in all of the herding venues including 6 Working Trail Dog Champions, over 50 High in Trials and two Most Promising Started dogs who are now working at advanced levels. To see a full list of Cathy's accomplishments, click here. Cathy also has several client dogs who are doing well. To see some of the dogs and students Cathy works with, click here.
In addition to lessons, Cathy teaches a number of classes that are designed to assist in the success of herding for the dog and the handler. Her classes are known for there high energy, fun format. Cathy's teaching philosophy is the more you laugh, the more you learn! Cathy spends October through May in Arizona and June through September in cooler climates. 2013 she is planning on working out of Dewey, AZ with monthly visits to Durango, CO. In June 2012, Cathy became an AHBA judge.
